Netflix’ Dollhouse bagged six awards at the Asia-Pacific Luminare Awards: best movie of the year (Doll House), best director (Marla Ancheta), best screenplay (Onay Sales), best child star (Althea), and best actor of the decade (Baron Geisler).
In an exclusive interview with the award-winning actor, Baron opens up to Gossip Girl. “Dollhouse is my rock bottom because it will always remind me to take care of my sobriety and it will remind me also sa mga bagay na puedeng mawala… the story is so me…after the coma, after the relapse… After the heart attack…Sayang ang buhay, sayang ang panahon, sayang ang oras (Life is so precious, let us not waste time and seasons.)”
According to IMDB this is Baron’s seventh acting award, two from Cinemalaya (Donor and Jay) One from Famas (Manila Kingpin), one from Golden Screen Awards (Jay), two from Star Awards (Manila Kingpon and the Dekada Award), and now best actor of the decade by the Luminaire Awards. I asked the actor his feelings about being awarded and being nominated 17 times. “I appreciate the awards, it’s like a good pat in the shoulder – hey you did a good job – but moreover. I appreciate the love and respect of the people that are responsible for me getting these awards, from the producers to the award-giving bodies that still believe in me.”
During the Netflix tudum 2022, the streaming franchise announced that Dollhouse topped the Netflix Philippines list as the most-watched movie. I asked the actor if fans call him Uncle Clyde publicly. “Yes, especially the children. By God’s grace I get to maintain this wholesome father figure image. When I bring my daughter Tali to BGC, a lot of kids look up to me and call me Uncle Clyde.”
The last time I interviewed Baron was during a tumultuous time in his marriage so I really had to ask how his wife, Jamie. “We were able to save our marriage Ate Gee. Thank you for your prayers. Right now, we’re still in love with each other, we are still intimate. Jamie is my life helper, she helps me to grow and learn more about life since I am a work in progress. I am thankful I have her in my life and that I have a community of married couples that help each other. One day at a time and I will have that freedom from all my demons and addictions but for now I am grateful that I am under God’s loving arms. Sobrang cliché but it’s true. Magpakatooo lang kayo sa Kanya at magiging tutoo rin siya sa iyo. Just be true to God and He will be true to you.”
