Tricycle driver wanted for murder in Pangasinan nabbed in Leyte


CAMP OSCAR FLORENDO, La Union – Police arrested a 48-year-old tricycle driver wanted for murder in Infanta, Pangasinan in Palompon, Leyte on Sunday, Nov. 27.

Brig. Gen. John Chua, Police Regional Office 1 director, identified suspect as Joselito Rufin Lumapas, married, a resident of Barangay Nangalisan, Infanta.

Chua said Lumapas allegedly stabbed and killed Rizaldo Merindo Oiguan and Aida Merindo Oiguan on Oct. 13, 2018 in Barangay Nangalisan.

Lumapas was arrested on an alias warrant of arrest issued by Judge Loreto Alog Jr. of the Regional Trial Court Branch 70 in Burgos, Pangasinan dated April 22, 2020.

The court recommended no bail for the suspect.

Lumapas was apprehended by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 1 105th Mobile Company along with personnel of the Infanta Municipal Police Station, Pangasinan Intelligence Unit, and Palompon Municipal Police Station in his hideout on Mabini St., Barangay Mazawalo.

Chua said Lumapas is on the wanted list of the Department of Interior and Local Government and had a reward of P140,000 for his capture.
