NPA rebel killed in Iloilo clash


ILOILO CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in an encounter with government soldiers in Igbaras town, Iloilo province on Saturday, Nov. 26.

The slain NPA was identified as Domingo Costas.

His remains were left behind when his comrades withdrew in the firefight with the 61st Infantry Battalion (IB) in Barangay Tigbanaba.

Costas, also known by the aliases “Evan” or “Ivan,” was a squad member for the NPA Southern Front Committee in Panay Island.

Lt. Col. Harold Garcia, 61st IB commander, said that soldiers recovered war materials – two M16A1 rifles, an AK47 rifle, an M203 grenade launcher, a rifle grenade, and paraphernalia for improvised explosive device (IED).

Garcia commended residents for providing information to soldiers.
