Showbiz media icon Lolit Solis tried to commit suicide at the height of the Metro Manila Film Festival scandal in 1994, she revealed in an exclusive interview.

"When you go to a certain point in life, parang there are times na there's no more point to go on. Mabuti pa kaya matulog na lang ako forever," said Nay Lolit in an interview with veteran entertainment host Aster Amoyo for her online show "TickTALK with Aster Amoyo" uploaded on YouTube on Friday, Nov. 25.

But Lolit said she did not pursue it. "God will help you in your obstructions." She added: "Pagkasalanan ko inaamin ko talaga. Hindi ko na realize ganun karami ang susuporta sa akin. Kahit na marami kang basher, may makukuha ka pa ring respeto." (It's my fault, I really admit it. I didn't realize so many people would support me. Even if you have a lot of bashers, you can still get some respect.)

Lolit said she has learned from the mistakes of the past.

"Kung ano man yung mga mistakes na nagawa mo nun, nakadagdag yun sa wisdom mo ngayon," she said. (Whatever mistakes you made then, that added to your wisdom now.)

Asked if there's anything she wants to do which she hasn't done, Lolit laughed and said: "Gumawa uli ng another scam." (Do another scam again.)

When asked if she can still pull it, the talent manager said: "Ako pa!"

Lolit also realized the importance of giving back, saying the secret to living is giving.

"You pay forward. Kung ano man ang natikman mong (sarap sa buhay). Patikman mo rin sa iba kung kaya mo. Pinaka-kawawa sa lahat yung nanghihingi ka," she added.

Lolit, 75, said she took up political science at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City but did not finish college.

But before she became a showbiz journalist, she covered the police beat under popular columnist Ruther Batuigas. Then she joined showbiz under the late talent manager Douglas Quijano who was hired later hired by Regal Films.

She also shared a piece of advice to aspiring entertainment reporters. "Kesa tira ka ng tiira, gandahan ko na lang sinusulat ko baka makatanggap pa ako ng regalo. Sumulat na lang tayo ng maganda at magkakaroon ka pa ng mga kaibigan. Gayahin ninyo ako kung kaya n'yo na."

(Instead of writing negative articles, I just write beautifully so I might even receive a gift. Let's just write beautifully and you'll have more friends. Imitate me if you can.)

She also encouraged people in showbiz to save money. "Pinaka-kawawa sa lahat 'yung nanghihingi ka."

Asked how she wants to be remembered, Lolit said: "Nakakatawa ang taong 'yan! My life is a joke."
