Human skeletal remains were unearthed inside the compound of the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Manila on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 24.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla confirmed that the skeletal remains were found by workers who were digging inside the DOJ compound where the department’s library would be constructed.
However, Remulla did not provide additional details like if the remains belonged to just one person or several persons.
He said the remains will be examined by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Published report stated that in 2009, skeletal remains were also found at the DOJ compound during the construction of three-story building for prosecutors.
Found then were two skulls and long skeletal parts believed to be the legs and forearms of human beings.
Another report stated that the compound where the DOJ offices are located used to be an execution site during World War II.
