K-pop idol group BTS member Jin’s enlistment date has been reported.
Korean media reported that Jin will enlist in the military on Dec. 13. He will be entering the The 5th Infantry Division recruit training center in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province in South Korea.
In the camp, he will receive five weeks of basic military training.
After this, he will be deployed as an active-duty soldier at a frontline unit, referring to a unit near the border of South Korea and North Korea.
Jin earlier revealed that he would be deployed to the frontline when he was asked by a fan.
"It's your birthday next month! Are you excited?" a fan asked him and he replied, “Not really... I'm appointed to the front-line," SBS News reported. Jin is turning 30 on Dec. 4.
A Korean journalist earlier told Manila Bulletin that Jin’s post meant that he will be allocated to the “frontline toward NK .”
Jin, the oldest member of BTS, is the first in line to enlist in the military.
BTS' agency, Bit Hit Music, announced on Oct. 17 that all members of BTS will be enlisting in the military with Jin going first.
“Group member Jin will initiate the process as soon as his schedule for his solo release is concluded at the end of October. He will then follow the enlistment procedure of the Korean government,” it said.
Jin released his single album “The Astronaut” on Oct. 28 and performed with Coldplay in Argentina.
He returned to South Korea on Oct. 31 and submitted his application to the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) to cancel the privilege granted to him by law to postpone his military service until the age 30, Yonhap News reported.
All Korean men are mandated by law to enlist in the military by age 28 but under the new law that took effect in June last year, all members of BTS were granted the privilege to delay their military service until they reach the age of 30.
