Pre-loved clothes from President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. sold like hotcakes during first day of the "Garage sale for a cause 3" event Wednesday, Nov. 23 at the House of Representatives in Quezon City.
The bazaar, organized by the Association of Women Legislators Foundation, Inc. (AWLFI) for charity purposes, began accepting buyers at around 10:30 a.m.
Given the spotlight during day one of the two-day event were at least 16 t-shirts, polo shirts, and dress shirts donated by Marcos. T-shirts cost P200 each, while polo shirts cost P2,000 each.
Marcos apparently wore a size medium. Some of the polo shirts looked like they may have been used by Marcos during the 2022 election campaign season.
By 11 a.m., only a few shirts remained available on the President’s clothes rack.
Also donating pre-loved items--mostly composed of Filipinianas and shoes--to the garage sale were First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Senior Deputy Speaker and former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Proceeds from the event will be used by AWLFI to support their many causes. The previous staging of the garage sale reportedly generated over P1 million in terms of proceeds.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the event was led by Majority Leader and Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Mannix Dalipe. Arroyo was also on hand during the opening rites.
Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez is the chairman of AWLFI, while Bulacan 4th district Rep. Linabelle Ruth Villarica is its president. Romualdez is the wife of House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
In his message to AWLFI, Speaker Romualdez lauded the lady lawmakers for their project which devotes the proceeds to various social activities of the foundation meant to bring help to those who need it the most.
“By doing so, you have transformed this sale to transcend the common objective of trade and elevated it to that of a lofty and noble undertaking,” he said regarding the event.
“Let me also commend the members of the AWLFI and other participating officials for your display of generosity by letting go of your pre-loved possessions so that others may get to enjoy them at affordable prices,” the Speaker added.
