Magnitude 4.1 quake jolts Abra — Phivolcs

(PHIVOLCS)

A 4.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Abra on Tuesday morning, Nov. 22, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs said the quake struck 18 kilometers (km) northeast of Tineg, Abra at 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

It said the earthquake was felt at Intensity V (strong) in Tineg, Abra; Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Lacub and Lagayan in Abra; and Intensity III (weak) in Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte and Danglas, Abra.

Phivolcs’ instruments also recorded the tremor at Intensity II in Solsona, Ilocos Norte, and Intensity I in Pasuquin, Laoag City, and Batac in Ilocos Norte and Bangued, Abra.

The earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, Phivolcs said it does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
