Disney Plus is here!

We are all dreaming of a Christmas with family and friends around a beautiful sparkling tree and a manger with the baby Jesus, Mama Mary, and Papa Joseph and the three kings underneath.  The gifts are there, so are the decorations on the tree, which are no longer limited to fancy crystal balls, mini Santas, sleighs, stars, and toys. These days, there are Star Wars characters, Mickey Mouse, Donald duck, and other Disney characters.

My youngest son, AJ, a digital artist, shares with us a “magical” evening with the folks who are bringing the Disney magic here to the Philippines.  He and his wife, Margaret Tipton, are such fans that they named their son, Disney! Yes, my grandson is named Disney, who is turning five on Dec. 2.

Here is his magical Disney night.

“Nov. 17 was the official launch date of the Disney Plus service, finally bringing some of the Disney magic to our shores. The event was celebrated by a party at The Fifth Rockwell where all of us attending were treated to a night of fun and magic.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to the celebration, and I attended with my wife, Margaret, herself a self-proclaimed Disney enthusiast.  It was a blast to spend the night meeting new like-minded people and hooking up with old friends.

Disney Plus is Walt Disney’s foray into digital streaming, offering its large library of content to viewers over their phones, computers tablets, and televisions.  It has been operating for some time now, but only recently has it been available in the Philippines.

And, to that, I say, it’s about time.

The streaming platform boasts of a sizable collection of favorites, both old and new, spanning multiple genres and mediums, from animation and movies to documentaries and reality shows.  Pop culture favorites such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, Pixar, and of course Disney itself call Disney Plus home, as do shows from National Geographic and STAR.

In true Disney fashion the dinner was served to the tune of“Be Our Guest,” the unforgettable classic song from the movie Beauty and the Beast. Served in several courses, the dishes, while sumptuous on their were made even more memorable by their names such as LimeSaber Sorbet, A-Tuna at Law, Hola Squash-ita soup, Silencio, Tuyo, and the  Entrée of Limitless Flavors, all referencing various movies and shows from the Disney catalogue.

Bringing out the inner child in us were photo pods where guests could pose and have pictures taken in set ups from the modern classic Disney animation Encanto, and hit Marvel television show, She-Hulk, Attorney at Law.

Also mingling with the crowd were Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story movies, and everyone’s beloved astromech droid, R2D2 of Star Wars fame.

All in all it was a magical evening with good food, enchanting music, and excellent company.  What a fantastic way to welcome in the wealth of content we all finally have access to on Disney Plus!”
