Police arrest man caught with shabu after being treated in hospital

CEBU CITY -- From hospital to jail real quick.

A 26-year-old man was arrested after he was caught possessing packs of shabu while being treated at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) on Monday, Nov. 7, here.

Nilo Panligaw was about to be discharged but instead of heading home, he was brought straight to a police station.

Major Nolan Tagsip, chief of the Police Station 2, said Panligaw was brought to the VSMMC on Sunday night to get treatment for the injuries he sustained during a fight in Barangay Kasambagan.

When he was about to be discharged the next day, the hospital’s security guard noticed that the man was acting uneasy.

The security guard then saw two sachets containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu fall from the man’s pocket.

The security checked the two sachets and immediately called the police on suspicion that what fell from the man’s pocket were illegal drugs.
