Fashion film competition winners announced

Best Picture 'Patayak Rutay'

Simultaneous with the holding of the 2022 Manila International Fashion Week last Oct. 28 was the awarding of winners of the first-ever Manila International Fashion Film Competition in Okada Manila.

Three foreign and eight local fashion films vied for the awards at stake which sought not only to recognize the quality of the short movies but also the creatives behind the scenes, such as the designers and make-up artists.

Designer John Guarnes, one of the event's founders, said the fashion film genre is very new to the Philippines but it should be explored by young film directors as it will give them "another platform to showcase their creativity and talent."

He added that making fashion films can be a revenue-generating opportunity for those in the industry, especially as they can make documentaries or films about fashion labels and brands.

Entries to the fashion film competition were approximately three minutes in length. Aside from being fashion-centric, they also focused on the music, culture and beauty of the subjects. The films can be viewed in the Youtube channel of Ganap International.
