60 cases of XBB Covid variant found in Western Visayas

ILOILO CITY – Sixty out of the 61 cases of the XBB variant of Covid-19 in the country were found in Western Visayas.

The Department of Health (DOH) did not disclose where these cases are in Western Visayas but said 50 cases have recovered while eight cases are still active.

The remaining two cases are still being verified.

All of the 60 new XBB variant are reportedly local cases.

It is uncertain if this new variant was the cause of the spike in Covid-19 cases in the region comprised of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.

There are 1,870 active COVID-19 cases across Western Visayas as of Oct. 19.

One-hundred seventy-five new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the region on Wednesday.
