Truck driver gets P100,000 backpay from ex-employer

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has assisted a retired truck driver from Lasam, Cagayan in finally claiming his long overdue back pay to his former employer amounting to P100,000.

In a statement, the DOLE Regional Office 2 said former truck driver Melañio Salvador Galicinao finally received his unpaid claims on Monday, Oct. 17, through the department's Single-Entry Approach (SEnA).

According to DOLE Technical Support Services Division (TSSD) Chief Laura B. Diciano, Galicinao filed his Request for Assistance (RFA) on October 14, this year.

The labor officials quickly conducted a conciliation-mediation conference between the employer and the former employee upon receipt of the request.

Through SEnA’s quick resolution, the truck driver employed for over nine years to his employer has agreed to settle his claims to P100,000.

The former truck driver expressed his gratitude to DOLE’s initiative mentioning the prompt action of the DOLE RO2 through its SEnA program.

“The money {will} be used to purchase {my} own carabao to assist in {the} rice field as I will be focusing on my own farm while in retirement,” said Galicinao.

The SEnA is a conciliation-mediation program of DOLE that seeks to provide speedy, impartial, inexpensive, and accessible settlement procedures for labor concerns to prevent them from maturing into actual labor cases and court battles.
