Soil erosion due to 'Neneng' closes some roads in Northern Luzon

Some roads in Northern Luzon were closed to traffic due to soil collapsed as a result of the heavy rains brought by tropical typhoon “Neneng", the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Sunday, Oct. 16.

In its 8 a.m. advisory, the DPWH reported that km 0387 of the Napu section, Bontoc III, Mt Province of the Baguio-Bontoc Road is closed to traffic as of 9 a.m. due to the ‘soil collapse’ with motorists being informed that no alternative route is on hand.

At present, the DPWH team in the vicinity is conducting a clearing operation where one wheel loader is being used.

Kilometer 0445+550 in Nagaparan, Dangan, Abra is impassable to traffic due to ‘soil collapse’ with the DPWH ready to clear the area as soon as its payloader arrives in the road section.

Motorists are advised to take the alternate route in the Abra-Ilocos Sur Road (Junction Narvacan Ilocos Sur - Manila North Road) to reach their destination.

The road in km 0446+050 of the Nagaparan, Danglas, Abra is also closed to traffic at 7 a.m. as the mudflow had blocked the carriageway.

After section km 0445+550 is cleared, the DPWH field men will start the clearing operation in the targeted blocked portions.

Motorists are advised to take the Abra-Ilocos Sur Road (Junction Narvacan Ilocos Sur - Manila North Road and vice versa) for their convenience.

As of 7 a.m.,the portion from km 0618+170 to km 0618+185 remains closed to traffic due to ‘soil collapse’ as motorists are left with no available alternative routes.

The clearing operation of the DPWH crewmen in the area is hampered by the bad weather condition.

The road from km 0618+700 to km 0618+710 of the Sadel Section, Parina, Calanasan, Apayao was closed to traffic at 8:10 a.m. due to ‘soil collapse’ with no available alternate route.

However, the clearing operation by one DPWH loader is hampered by the adverse weather conditions as reported by the DPWH-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Office. (Chito A. Chavez)
