Gomez took her oath before PCG commandant Admiral Artemio Abu in Ormoc City, Leyte on Frifay, Oct. 7, where she was given an honorary rank of Auxiliary Commodore as part of the PCGA Executive Squadron.

"The rank signifies Mayor Lucy's responsibility to uphold peace in coast as well as in land which she faithfully does when she was still the congresswoman and as the incumbent city mayor," the PCG said.

She was accompanied by her husband, Leyte 4th District Rep. Richard Gomez, and Auxiliary Captain Diether Ocampo, an active member of the PCGA during the ceremony.

In her message, Gomez expressed her "utmost gratitude" for the faithful service of PCG that it has rendered to Ormoc City.

The ceremony coincided with the 11th founding anniversary of the Coast Guard District-Eastern Visayas (CGDEV) which carried the theme, "CGDEV@11: Strengthening Bonds for Secure and Peaceful Eastern Visayas."
