Veteran actress Dolly De Leon made a mark on her performance as Abigail in Ruben Ostlund's film "Triangle of Sadness."

Making its red carpet premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the film received a lot of good reviews from film critics and even won the Palme d'Or at the festival.

But aside from its big victory, De Leon caught the attention of the audience and film critics. According to Variety magazine's 2023 Oscars predictions, she was named as top three contenders for the best-supporting actress category.

Although De Leon is not officially nominated, Variety's award senior editor Clayton Davis commented on De Leon's performance.

"Her committed turn not only makes her the defining supporting performance of the year thus far but also, if enough Academy members make a note to focus on quality (and not simply name recognition as they can often do), she could be the frontrunner walking into awards season," Davis mentioned.

Aside from Clayton Davis, Jacqueline Coley from Rotten Tomatoes pointed out De Leon's strong performance in the film.

"Character actress Dolly De Leon is the name we want everyone to take note of as she has skyrocketed to the top of our early predictions for Supporting Actress," Coley wrote.

De Leon became a versatile actress, starting from theater productions up to playing supporting roles on television.

So far, in the 93-year history of the Academy Awards in the US, no Filipino has been nominated in the major categories of the most prestigious award-giving body in movies.

The nominations for the 94th Academy Awards will be announced in February 2023.
