DMW clarifies report on lifting of restrictions in HK

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) sought to clarify an earlier report about the lifting of the compulsory quarantine requirement for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and other inbound travelers from overseas places entering Hong Kong.

The agency said the source of the report was not the DMW, but the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

According to the DMW, the report "caused some confusion on the part of our key stakeholders, our OFWs, especially those bound for Hong Kong, China, as well as our Philippine and foreign recruitment agencies".

And since the report came out, the agency had been swamped with requests for clarification from these stakeholders.

In the advisory, the HKIA said the presentation of a negative nucleic acid testing report before boarding at HK airport will no longer be required starting Sept. 26.

It added that the 'test-and-hold’ protocol for inbound travelers including OFWs and tourists from the Philippines and other countries no longer required.

Inbound persons are not required to wait for the test results at the airport after undergoing specimen collection for the nucleic acid test.

“They can take public transport or self-arranged transport to return to their home or their hotel of choice,” the HKIA advisory read.
