Man who punched 67- year-old Filipina more than 100 times pleads guilty


The man who punched a 67-year-old Filipino woman more than 100 times last March has pleaded guilty to violent crime charges.

Tammel Esco, 42, pleaded guilty to committing a violent hate crime.

“Today’s agreement secured justice for the brave victim who endured the shocking attack and its aftermath and for a community impacted by the trauma of this hate driven violence," said District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah in a statement on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

According to his plea agreement, Esco will be sentenced to 17 and a half years in state prison on Nov. 29.

On March 11, Esco was caught on CCTV footage attacking the victim as she tried to enter her apartment building.

He punched the Filipina more than 100 times, stomped on her several times, cursed, and spat on her.

The victim suffered multiple facial fractures, brain bleeding, and bruises and lacerations.

Esco was arrested and held without bail since the incident.

"I want to assure every community in Westchester County that my office will use every resource at our disposal to fight hate and hold perpetrators accountable," Rocah said.
