Cop kills wife, lover in Oriental Mindoro

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – A policeman allegedly shot and killed his wife and her lover in Barangay Barcenaga here on Monday, Sept. 26.

Col. Samuel S. Delorino, acting Oriental Mindoro police chief, identified the suspect as Corporal Michael Angelo Geneta, assigned to the First Police Mobile Force Company of the Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office (PPO) in Barangay San Isidro, Victoria, Oriental Mindoro.

Geneta surrendered to Lt. Col. Nonato Banania Jr., chief of the Naujan, Oriental Mindoro Municipal Police Station, one hour after he shot dead his wife, Jacklyn Claire, 33, a medical technologist at the Naujan Municipal Health Office, and her alleged lover William Heart Gacusan.

Investigation showed that at about 7:10 p.m. on Monday, the victims were on board a red Toyota Vios traversing the highway in Sitio Amuguis in Barangay Barcenaga when they were suddenly blocked by Geneta who was driving a motorcycle.

The policeman alighted from his motorbike, approached the victims, and fired at them. The suspect left the scene.

Elizabeth M. Austria, a teacher, told police investigators that she witnessed how Geneta shot the victims.

Responding members of the local rescue team brought the victims to a hospital here but they were declared dead on arrival.

The suspect surrendered at about 8 p.m. and handed over his service firearm which was subjected to forensic examination at the PPO.

Investigators theorized that extreme jealousy may have influenced the policeman to kill the victims.

Delorino ordered a thorough investigation of the shooting incident.

Suspect faces parricide and homicide charges.
