Sandro praises House colleague for attending plenary despite personal tragedy


Senior Deputy Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos led the House of Representatives in commending a colleague who reported for duty in the plenary Tuesday, Sept. 27 despite the recent passing of a loved one.

Valenzuela City 2nd district Rep. Eric Martinez went to work Tuesday to defend the proposed 2023 budget of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in the ongoing House plenary debates in connection with the P5.268-trillion General Appropriations Bill (GAB).


At the end of the interpellations on the DOTr's budget, Marcos stood at the podium to make a manifestation.


"First and foremost, we would also like to extend our sympathies, us in the majority, for our colleague Cong Eric, for the passing of his father and of course, would like to commend him in putting forward his duty toward and for this august chamber despite the recent developments that have taken place," Marcos said.

"And as such, I can safely say, that I speak on behalf of not just the majority but the whole House of Representatives in offering our sincere collective condolences to our beloved colleague, and he can rest assured his father will be in an our prayers in the coming days," added the presidential son.

Marcos then moved to terminate or conclude the debate on the DOTr budget.

After this, the Ilocos lawmakers asked members of the plenary to stand and have a minute of silence for Martinez's departed relative.

The House is racing to pass the GAB or proposed national budget on third and final reading before Oct. 1.
