Marcos, Cabinet discuss economic transformation plan

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said agencies such as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) presented during the Cabinet meeting, Marcos' ninth since assuming the presidency.

Angeles said efforts to ensure compliance with Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) were discussed by MARINA, CHED, and DMW.

During the meeting, Marcos' goal to upgrade the skills of Filipino workforce was also tackled. The DOLE, TESDA, and CHED were part of this discussion.

"Bahagi ito doon sa economic transformation program ng ating Pangulo, kasama pa doon iyong educational aspect at isa po ito doon sa aspeto na iyon (This is part of the economic transformation program of the President, it includes the educational aspect and this is onw of them)," Angeles said.

"So, both vocational skills training and expanding the skills of our workforce are part of the economic transformation of the President)," she added.

In one of his interviews, Marcos said he wants to transform the country's economy and not just recover it from how it used to be before the pandemic happened.

The Cabinet meeting was also attended by newly sworn-in Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
