DPWH clears roads in Karding-affected areas

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has cleared the roads in Luzon that were rendered impassable due to the onslaught of super typhoon “Karding”.

Of the nine national roads in Luzon rendered impassable, the DPWH said six have been partially opened to the public.

Those which remain close were the Kennon Road in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Junction Abbag- Nagtipunan-Nueva Vizcaya Road (via Dupax) in Nueva Vizcaya; and the Diteki River Detour Road along Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road in Aurora Province.

In Region 2, other national roads and bridges are passable and open to traffic, except the La Conwap Detour along Jct. Abbag- Nagtipunan- Nueva Vizcaya Road (via Dupax ) due to high water elevation.

The San Pedro Overflow Bridge along NRJ-Villa Sur-San Pedro-Cabuaan-Ysmael-Disimungal Road in Maddela, Quirino is now passable and open to all types of vehicles. Warning signs are also installed to guide the traveling public.

The Junction Abbag- Nagtipunan- Nueva - Vizcaya Road (via Dupax), in San Pugo, Nagtipunan, Quirino is partially opened. One lane of traffic is being observed due to the ongoing clearing of the roads.

Meanwhile, only light vehicles are permitted across the Manila North Road in Sitio Banquero in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.

According to the DPWH Region-I Ilocos Norte First District Engineering Office (DEO), the clearing team is monitoring the area for the recurrence of landslides.

The DPWH also advised travelers of three roads with limited access due to a submerged portion of the roads: the Apalit-Macabebe- Masantol Road in Calsada Bayu, Sta. Rita, Macabebe, Pampanga; Olangapo- Bugallon Road in Cabanang, Zambales; and the Rizal Bdry.-Famy-Quezon Bdry. Road in Laguna.
