‘The Wailing’ star Kwak Do-won caught by police for drunk driving in Jeju Island


Korean actor Kwak Do-won, who starred in the hit horror film “The Wailing” in 2016, was caught by the police for drunk driving in Jeju Island in South Korea on Sept. 25.

According to the Jeju police, the 49-year-old actor was caught at 5 a.m. while sleeping in his car that was parked on a road in Jeju City. He lives in Jeju.

The police were alerted by a resident who noticed a car parked on a road was not moving.

When the police arrived, Kwak Do-won underwent a breathalyzer test, which revealed that his blood alcohol level exceeded 0.08 percent, enough for his driver’s license to be revoked.

Korean media reported that Kwak Do-won traveled about 10 km. by car. He was driving drunk and fell asleep in the middle of a road.

“Fortunately, it did not lead to any accidents. He will be called in again later for further investigation of details,” the police said, according to the Korea JoongAng Daily.

The actor’s agency, Mada Entertainment, issued an apology on Sept. 25.

“We give our sincerest apologies that such disgraceful thing happened. Regardless of the reason, Kwak and the agency feel heavy responsibility. We are sorry for causing concern to those who have been supporting Kwak, and apologize once again for causing trouble,” it said.

In 2020, Kwak Do-won starred in the film “The Golden Holiday,” which was shot in the Philippines. The movie sold 537,470 tickets and grossed $3,137,895 at the Korean box office, according to the Korean Film Council.
