Nueva Ecija under state of calamity due to 'Karding'


CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija (PNA) – This province was placed under a state of calamity on Monday, Sept. 26, following the onslaught of typhoon “Karding.”

In a special session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, a resolution declaring Nueva Ecija under the state of calamity due to the extensive damage from the typhoon was passed and approved.

The resolution authorizes the provincial government to utilize local disaster risk reduction and management funds for relief and recovery programs.

"The Sangguniang Panlalawigan, after evaluating the report given by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), finds necessary the declaration of state of calamity necessary and with extreme urgency," it stated.

The PDRRMC headed by Gov. Aurelio Umali recommended the declaration due to the extensive damage caused by Karding on agricultural crops and infrastructure.

Umali also announced the suspension of classes on all levels, both in private and public schools on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

However, he said work in government agencies and offices will resume.
