Evacuation center in Cagayan almost complete

ALLACAPAN, Cagayan – The Allacapan Evacuation Center here is 95 percent complete, the Department of Public Works and Highways-Cagayan Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-CSDEO) announced.

The DPWH fast-tracked the construction of the evacuation center and only electrical works and correction of minor defects have to be completed.

The 1,450-square meter, single-story evacuation center can accommodate hundreds of families before, during, and after calamities.

It has a kitchen, toilet, play room, consult room, breastfeeding room, praying room, and clinic.

The evacuation center is strategically located at the center of the municipality, close to the municipal hall, school, public market, and business establishments.

“Throughout the recent years, we have witnessed how geographically vulnerable Cagayan is in times of disaster. Thus, the sustaining effort of the government in building shelters for calamity victims is one of the ways wherein the department can contribute to the goal of disaster risk resiliency in shaping our national agenda” DPWH-CSDEO acting District Engineer Rellie Dalmaceda said.

The shelter, built for P34 million under the National Building Program and funded by the General Appropriations Act of 2021, will be turned over to the municipality this month.
