Muntinlupa City has been reelected as auditor of CityNet, “the largest association of urban stakeholders committed to sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region.”
This was announced on Sept. 23 by Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon who is attending the 9th CityNet Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“Established in 1987 with the support of UNESCAP, UNDP and UN-Habitat, the Network of cities has grown to include over 173 municipalities, NGOs, private companies and research centers,” according to the CityNet website.
A total of 25 cities in the Philippines are members of CityNet.
Biazon said during the election of officers, Muntinlupa was reelected as auditor, a position the city has held in CityNet since 2017.
“Yesterday [Sept. 22], there was another election of officials and Muntinlupa was reelected. Muntinlupa will serve as auditor of the organization starting this year, 2022, until 2016,” he said in a video he posted on Facebook.
Biazon said he has seen projects in Kuala Lumpur that can serve as models for cities. One of these is public housing, which is a tenement style structure.
“It is noteworthy that although it is public housing, it is very clean and beautiful,” the mayor said.
The 9th CityNet Congress will end today, Sept. 23.
