Jarred Brooks (ONE Championship)

Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks has always been known as a wrestler who prefers to grind his opponents down on the ground.

But when he challenges ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio in the main event of ONE 164 on December 3 – the promotion’s return to the Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines – he promises to pull a different technique out of his trick bag.

The American proclaimed that he’ll finish Pacio on the feet within the first five minutes.

“First round, he’s done. I’m going to get it done in the first round,” Brooks said in an interview with SMCP Martial Arts.

“I know that deep down in my heart. I’ve predicted this, I’ve seen this for the past three months.”

Brooks is well aware of the Filipino’s improvements, as the 26-year-old Pacio has always taken pride in honing his craft with each passing day.

But while the American gave props to Pacio for improving, he’s confident that “The Passion” won’t be on the same level.

“It looks like his wrestling defence has gotten a little bit better. But at the end of the day, I think I have 10-times the grappling capabilities than him,” Brooks said.

“If he thinks the training partners he’s working with have the same kind of wrestling caliber that I do, then they’re mistaken. Those guys do not have the wrestling prowess that I do, or the jiu-jitsu prowess. Everybody sleeps on my jiu-jitsu.”

Brooks will be behind enemy lines when he visits the Philippines, especially because he’s been stirring the pot since joining the promotion last year.

Filipino fans can get passionate, especially when rooting for their local heroes, but “The Monkey God” is unfazed by the type of resistance he’ll face in the country come fight night.

Not one to back down, he has a message to all Filipino fans out there.

“I’m going to try to knock your boy out on the feet. I wait for my opportunities, and I’ll show y’all that I can be a knockout artist as well,” he said.

Meanwhile, the newest hit reality TV show “ONE Warrior Series Philippines” continues every Sunday night on GTV, the ONE Super App, and watch.onefc.com. Weekly replays will also air on Tap Go, ONE Championship Philippines Facebook, and ONE Championship’s official YouTube channel.
