NTC orders intensified campaign vs text scams

All regional directors and officers-in- charge of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) have been ordered to intensify the agency’s campaign against the proliferation of “personalized” text scams.

In a memorandum “Kontra Text Scam” issued on Sept. 16, NTC Commissioner Gamaliel A. Cordoba directed regional heads to appear before different local radio and television stations within their respective jurisdictions at least 10 times to warn the public against the continuing text scams from Sept. 19 to Sept. 25, 2022.

“The Commission has intensified its campaign against the proliferation of ‘personalized’ fake job, lucky winner, bonus cash and similar money scams targeting the general public across telecommunications networks in the country,” stated the memo.

Further, the regional heads have been directed to educate the public on how to properly report these text scams to the NTC.

Cordoba also required the regional officers to submit a written report of compliance to the Office of the Commissioner on or before end this month.
