P12.5-M assistance released to 'Odette' victims in Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands


The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) released on Thursday, Sept. 15, a total of P12.5 million worth of assistance to typhoon “Odette” victims in San Benito, Siargao Island; Surigao City; and Basilisa, Dinagat Islands.

In a statement, PRC said that 1,042 families from these provinces received P5,000 cash assistance while 761 families were given shelter tool kits worth P9,600.

This initiative was a part of the P455 million humanitarian assistance of the PRC for the victims of typhoons “Odette” and “Agaton” as well as for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Peace and Development Project.

PRC said that this was in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the German Red Cross, and the Netherlands Red Cross.

"PRC’s cash, emergency shelter, and livelihood assistance distribution also covers Southern Leyte, Leyte, Palawan, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Maguindanao, and Lanao del Sur," said PRC.

Last Sept. 6, PRC also released assistance worth P43,825,000 to “Odette” victims in Bohol, Cebu province, and Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu City.

While on Sept. 11, P8.19 million worth of livelihood assistance was given by the PRC to BARMM Peace and Development Project beneficiaries in Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao.
