Here’s your first look at Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ live-action film


Halle Bailey becomes Princess Ariel

After years of its announcement, Disney finally gives a glimpse of its forthcoming live-action film adaptation of its animated classic “The Little Mermaid.” Unveiled during D23 Expo, the movie's teaser gives everyone a look at star Halle Bailey as she portrays the mermaid princess Ariel. Toward the end of the clip, the actress also presented her singing chops with the movie’s anthem “Part of Your World.”

Joining Halle in the film are actors Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. Rounding up the cast are Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, and Jacob Tremblay, who are voicing characters Sebastian, Scuttle, and Flounder, respectively. 

Disney first released “The Little Mermaid” animated film in 1989. Loosely based on the Danish fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, the animated film has been adapted into a theater musical and got a sequel film titled “The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea.”

Directed by Rob Marshall, “The Little Mermaid” live-action film is one of Disney’s upcoming remakes of its animated movie classics, following the success of “Maleficent,” “The Jungle Book,” and “Cinderella” among others. 

“The Little Mermaid” live-action film is slated to premiere on May 26, 2023.
