PH detects over 2,000 more Covid-19 cases

The Philippines saw 2,313 new Covid-19 cases, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Friday, Sept. 9.

According to the DOH Covid-19 tracker, a total of 24,300 individuals are still battling with the viral disease nationwide.

Most of the new Covid-19 infections in the last two weeks were still detected in Metro Manila with 8,639 cases. Next was Calabarzon with 3,757 cases, Central Luzon with 2,423, Davao region with 1,317, and Western Visayas with 1,242.

The country has already recorded 3.9 million confirmed Covid-19 cases since 2020, of which, 3.8 million people have recovered while 62,249 died.

Variants

The DOH also announced the detection of more than 400 new cases of omicron subvariants in the country.

In its report, there were 425 new BA.5 cases, 10 new BA.4, and one BA.2.75 cases.

Of the additional BA.5 cases, 214 were detected in Western Visayas, 146 from Davao region, 21 from Soccsksargen, 19 from Calabarzon, nine from Metro Manila, seven from Central Visayas, five from Central Luzon, two from Northern Mindanao, and one each from Caraga and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

For the new BA.4 cases, seven were found in Davao region, two from Soccsksargen, and one from Northern Mindanao.

The new BA.2.75 case was detected in the Davao region.
