BIR district officers worry over promotion exam

Many of the 122 revenue district officers (RDOs) nationwide are believed to be worried of losing their assignment following the decision of Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Lilia Catris Guillermo to give written examination to other officials aspiring to be appointed to the same post.

"What is our chance of retaining our job if the examinees pass the test?" said a Metro Manila RDO who declined to be named.

A total of 93 revenue officers from all over the country are scheduled to take the examinations on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the BIR main office in Quezon City.

This, after Guillermo issued last month an unnumbered memorandum titled "Conduct Optional Competency-Based Examination to those Aspiring to be Designated Revenue District Officers."

Among those qualified to take the exam are assistant RDO and officer-in-charge, regional investigation and assessment heads, and holders of Attorney IV items in the legal division.

The test covers knowledge on taxation, revenue regulations and issuances, as well as plans to enhance tax collection with emphasis on digitalization.

The RDO post is considered a plum assignment in the bureau and the holders are considered field commanders in the collection of taxes.
