3 kids die in QC fire


Three children died in a fire that gutted a residential area at the corner of South 17 and Father Martinez Streets, Brgy. Obrero, in Quezon City early Thursday morning, Sept. 8.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Rolando Valena of the Quezon Fire District (QCFD), investigator on case, said the two victims who were siblings, with ages seven and five, and their 11-year-old cousin, were trapped on the third floor of their house when the fire broke out.

Valena said the victims were sleeping with their grandmother when the incident happened.

The three children were left in their room after their grandmother, in trying save the victims, fell from the third floor to the ground floor of their house, he added.

The investigator said that the grandmother was given immediate medical attention.

The QCFD said the fire was raised to first alarm at around 12:02 a.m.

It was declared under control at around 1:08 a.m. and was extinguished at around 3:12 a.m.

Authorities placed at P135,000 the estimated damage to property. Around 27 houses were destroyed and close to 81 families were affected.

Probers are still investigating the cause of fire which was reported to have originated from the second floor of another house in the area..
