UAAP kicks off Oct. 1

The UAAP is finally returning next month with Adamson University taking the helm as its host for Season 85.

With the theme "RISE AS ONE," the collegiate league marks the second straight season it will be held for the calendar year starting Oct. 1 following the successful comeback of the 84th season from March to June.

"After the last UAAP Season made us Fully Alive and created Champions for Life, UAAP Season 85 is hoping to call the entire community to 'Rise As One,'" said UAAP Season 85 president Fr. Aldrin Suan, CM of Adamson University.

"It's been two years since the Covid-19 pandemic happened and has yet to end. Together, we are looking to rise as a nation, helping build a better future for a brighter tomorrow."

The event calendar, however, has yet to be announced but is expected to be released later this month as Cignal TV remained as the official broadcast partner.

Suan added that the UAAP is set to bring back "traditions" that were stopped for last season due to restrictions, one of which is the holding of televised games on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

This might also mean that the opening and closing ceremonies might possibly be held under normal circumstances with a live audience while still observing proper health protocols.

Other sports that were held back, more importantly, might be included in the sports calendar as well.

"This season, we are also not just looking to have accomplished a 'good hosting year' for Adamson University but begin traditions that will be passed on from host to host for seasons to come," added the UAAP Season 85 president.

Meanwhile, the NCAA, for its part, will kickstart its season beginning Saturday, Sept. 10.
