Typhoon Henry (international name: Hinnamnor) turned north-northwestward over the east China sea and exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), said the Philippine, Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday morning, Sept. 4.
This weather disturbance’s eye was last spotted 590 kilometers (km) north-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes outside PAR. It has maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph), gustiness of up to 185 kph, and is moving north-northwestward at 15 kph.
All tropical cyclone wind signals (TCWS) raised due to Henry have now been lifted.
Monsoon rains
Despite the lifting of the wind signals, the state weather bureau warned that Henry will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat. With this development, monsoon rains will continue to persist in the northern and western section of northern Luzon as well as the western section of central Luzon in the next 24 hours.
The typhoon-enhanced habagat will also continue to channel winds with gusts reaching Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
“Occasional gusts reaching strong breeze to near Gale strength may also be experienced today in Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Mindoro Provinces, and Romblon,” said the state weather bureau in its bulletin.
Forecast weather conditions
Residents of the areas affected by the trough of Henry and the southwest monsoon particularly Metro Mania, Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro were warned against possible hazards such as flash floods and landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
Davao Region and SOCCSKSARGEN, on the other hand, will continue to experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers due to intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
Partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers will persist over the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms and the southwest monsoon according to PAGASA.
