Cops arrest 2 men who tried to extort money from Sen. Zubiri

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) have arrested two people for allegedly demanding money from Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri during an entrapment operation in Zambales.

CIDG director Police Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee said the arrested suspects have been demanding P50,000 from the office of Zubiri, allegedly for expenses in the political convention that would sponsor in Zambales.

He identified them as Bryan Ledesma 23, an online seller; and, Danilo Ledesma, 46, a farmer who turned out to have been previously arrested for a drug case.

Lee said the suspects were arrested when they agreed to meet with representatives of the office of Zubiri in Barangay San Pablo in Castillejos town.

He said charges of Robbery Extortion and Usurpation of Authority were filed against the suspects while an additional case of violation of Republic Act 10591 was leveled against Danilo Ledesma after he yielded a handgun during the entrapment.

Lee said follow-up operations are now ongoing against the arrested suspects' at least two other cohorts.
