DSWD extends cash aid to Mt. Province families who lost their homes due to land subsidence


BONTOC, Mt. Province – Owners of 12 houses that were completely destroyed by the land subsidence in Sitio Tatabra-an, Barangay Sacasacan, Sadanga, Mt. Province and the 39 owners of partially damaged houses were granted financial assistance by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera.

The 12 owners of completely damaged houses were granted P10,000 each while the 39 owners of partially damaged homes got P5,000 each.

On Aug. 4, the ground suddenly cracked and gradually sank in the said sitio, forcing the evacuation of the families.

The ground crack and gradual sinking were said to be caused by the magnitude-7 earthquake on July 27.

Barangay Sacasacan was declared in a state of calamity on August 5.

The subsidence continued until August 7 resulting in the destruction of five concrete houses, four rice granaries, irrigation and concrete roads.

The DSWD said there were a total of 51 families affected in the area who were also given food packs, including non-food items amounting to P16,800.
