Cop robbed, mauled by 3 men while on patrol in Isabela


TUMAUINI, Isabela – Three men were arrested for allegedly mauling a policeman in Barangay Santa here Monday, August 15.

The Police Regional Office (PRO) 2 identified the suspects as Basilio Lugo Jr., 45; Jayson Rico, 34; and Loyfrey Lugo, 39, residents of this town.

Investigation showed that the victim, Harold Tandayu, 29, of the local police, was patrolling on board a motorcycle at 10 p.m. when he noticed the suspects riding a motorcycle out of direction.

Tandayu approached the suspects but they ganged up on him.

Witnesses told police that the suspects assaulted the victim even though they knew he was a law enforcer.

The suspects carted away the victim’s android cellular phone and his service firearm before fleeing in their motorcycle.

Local police conducted a hot pursuit operation which resulted into the arrest of Lugo and Rico in Barangay Sinippil here after they were surrendered by Barangay Captain Dionisio Guiyab.

Recovered from the suspects were the victim’s gun and cellphone.

Police and barangay officials located Loyfrey in Barangay Santa and was taken into custody.

Suspects and evidence were brought to the police station for documentation and proper disposition.

The Police Regional Office 2 said they will be charged for robbery and direct assault.
