Two siblings drown in water-filled hole in Isabela construction site

RAMON, Isabela -- Two siblings who went missing for hours on Sunday were found dead in a water-filled construction hole in Purok 6, Barangay Burgos in this town.

In a belated report, the Isabela Police Provincial Office identified victims as Marianne, 9, and Supremo, 5, of Purok 6 in Barangay Burgos.

The police said that according to the victims’ father, his two children were playing near their house on Sunday.

However, around 4:00 p.m. the parents noticed their two children were nowhere in the place where they were playing.

The parents tried to locate them until they were told by barangay residents that they had found a slipper floating in a hole filled with water near the construction site.

“Dahil may nakalutang na tsinelas, ay sinikap na sisirin ang lugar na butas sa construction site at nakita ang dalawa bata,” a resident told the police.

The father of the victims positively identified that it was his children.

The barangay officials, who reported the incident around 7:30 p.m. to the local police, were trying to locate the owner of the construction site.

“Nagkataon na Sabado at Linggo walang mga workers dahil sobrang malakas ang ulan at siguro napadpad ang dalawa bata doon kaya nangyari ang insident,” another resident said.
