‘Habagat’ to bring scattered rains over parts of S. Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao

(MANILA BULLETIN)

Several areas in Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao may experience scattered rain showers due to the southwest monsoon, locally called “habagat,” said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Aug. 14.

In the next 24 hours, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may prevail over Visayas, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Quezon province, and Batangas.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to “moderate to at times heavy rains” in these areas.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
