The good news was no fatality was reported, and that only five of the 31 passengers sustained minor injuries, according to police Senior Master Sergeant Larie Eco, investigator from Manolo Fortich police.

Based on a report from Manolo Fortich police, the bus driven by Tommy Magno of San Andres, Barangay Bunawan, Agusan del Sur came from Cagayan de Oro City and was bound for Davao City.

While negotiating a descending curve road in Brgy. Tankulan in Manolo Fortich town, the bus’ brake malfunctioned, resulting into the driver losing control of the bus that fell into the ravine.

All of the passengers were brought to Bukidnon Provincial Hospital Annex in San Miguel in Manolo Fortich for immediate medical treatment.

Representatives from the bus company were also present after the accident, Eco said, and willing to shoulder the expenses.

“Ang atubangan sa bus ang nakaangkon og damage kay mao man ang nipadulong sa yuta pagkuhulog (The front portion of the bus sustained damages as that was the part that fell to the ground),” Eco told Manila Bulletin in a phone interview Saturday, August 13.

However, the police have already coordinated with the bus company as well as to the local government unit for the retrieval of the vehicle.
