National road in Salcedo, Ilocos Sur closed to traffic due to massive erosion – DPWH-Reg 1


SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -- The Department of Public Works and Highways-Region 1 advised travelers and motorists that roads in Ilocos Sur are closed to traffic due to massive rock and soil erosion/slope collapse.

As of Thursday, DPWH said in statement that Barangay Balidbid (K0 362+930), Salcedo, Ilocos Sur along Junction Candon-Salcedo-del Pilar Road is closed to traffic due has been closed to traffic because of huge heaps of rock and soil that cascaded from the mountain slopes.

The DPWH said there is no alternate route for the travelers and motorists to take since the San Emilio-Del Pilar Road is also closed due to frequent landslides in the area.

Ilocos Sur 2nd District Engineering Office is exerting all its effort together with Ilocos Sur 1st DEO equipment and Local Government Unit-Salcedo and Gregorio del Pilar in the clearing operations.

Meanwhile, the La Union Second DEO said that San Luis Bridge 2 (K0220+759), along Rosario-Pugo Road is passable only for vehicles of up to 10 tons.

Vehicles above 10 tons may take Manila North Road/Agoo-Baguio City Road and vice versa.

La Union 2nd DEO is monitoring the damaged bridge and in coordination with LGU Pugo and Rosario, La Union for load limit restriction implementation and traffic control.

For the Pangasinan Second DEO: Dawel Bridge (K0380+058-K0380+182), along Dagupan-Bonuan-San Fabian Road is passable only for vehicles of up to five tons.

Vehicles above five tons may take Pangasinan-La Union Inter Provincial Road (Dagupan-Mangaldan Road Section) and vice versa.

The Pangasinan 2nd DEO and Dagupan City (Public Order Safety Office (POSO) are still manning/controlling the area 24/7 to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

All other national roads and bridges are passable to all types of vehicles.

Commuters are advised to take precautionary measures while traversing affected national roads and bridges.
