DOH logs 50 dengue fatalities in Western Visayas


ILOILO CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) has logged 50 dengue fatalities in Western Visayas from January to July this year.

Capiz has logged its first dengue death, the DOH-Region 6 Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) said in an August 11 report.

Four new deaths from dengue were recorded in Western Visayas in the last week of July.

All localities, except Guimaras, recorded dengue-related deaths.

Based on DOH-Region 6 data, Iloilo and Negros Occidental have 14 dengue-related deaths.

Antique has nine dengue-related fatalities while Bacolod City has eight.

Aklan has three deaths while Iloilo City has one fatality.

There were 8,647 dengue cases in the region as of July 31 – including 564 new cases in the last week – an increase of 543 percent compared to 1,345 in the same period last year.
