The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), together with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, delivered 200 hygiene kits and 400 jerry cans to Barangay Puro, Caoayan in Ilocos Sur on Aug. 2.

Located in a coastal area, PRC said that volunteers needed to cross the Abra river to be able to reach the said barangay.

Ilocos Sur was one of the provinces affected by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake that struck its nearby province, Abra, on July 27.

The PRC volunteers also conducted hygiene promotion activities for 12 families, or 92 individuals, and distributed 5,000 liters of water through a water storage bladder in Barangay Villamar.

“Laging handa ang Red Cross na tunguhin ang pinakamalalayong komunidad sa Ilocos Sur at iba pang probinsiyang naapektuhan upang maipabot natin ang ating tulong sa kanila (Red Cross is always ready to reach the farthest communties in Ilocos Sur and other provinces that were affected to bring our assistance to them),” said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon.

As of Aug. 7, PRC said that its Ilocos Sur Chapter has already distributed 235,500 liters of water through the PRC water tankers, conducted hygiene promotion activities among 7,196 individuals, provided 2,589 hot meals, supplied 2,700 face masks, and given 645 hygiene kits to the distraught residents.
