ILOILO CITY – Police seized more than P4.6-million worth of suspected shabu in anti-drug operations in Iloilo from January to July this year.

“This shows the sustained and aggressive efforts to prevent and preempt the resurgence of the menace in the province,” said Police Col. Adrian Acollador, Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) chief.

A report released by the IPPO Provincial Operations and Management Unit said various drug enforcement teams seized around 390 sachets of shabu weighing 683.408 grams in 55 anti-illegal drug operations in the 42 towns and component city of Passi.

Seventy-one alleged drug personalities were arrested.

“The arrests of drug personalities recently simply show our war on illegal drugs did not stop with the end of the term of President Duterte. We are staying vigilant against anyone who attempts to trade illegal drugs in the province,” Acollador said.

The Iloilo top cop also said most drug suspects are newly identified since the major drug personalities have been neutralized during the Duterte administration.

Aside from newly identified drug suspects, some of the suppliers in Iloilo are believed to be from outside Western Visayas.

“But we cannot allow the gains of our barangay drug clearing programs. We have to be on guard and stay determined to make Iloilo Province as drug-free,” Acollador added.

The IPPO Police Community Affairs and Development Unit said 98.25 percent of the 1,721 barangays across Iloilo have already been certified as drug-free.
