More than 1,200 residents have been affected by the continuous rainfall in Central Visayas (Region 7) due to the combined effects of a low pressure area (LPA) and southwest monsoon (habagat), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Saturday, August 6.
A report from the NDRRMC showed 288 families or 1,253 individuals from 17 barangays in Cebu and Bohol provinces were affected by the rains.
Thirteen houses were also totally damaged while seven more were partially destroyed as the rainfall also caused flooding and landslides in the region.
Power interruption was also experienced in Cebu City, the Council stated.
There were also five roads and bridges that were deemed not passable to motorists due to flooding and landslides.
These include the Natalio Bacalso Avenue in Kinasang-an and Trancentral Highway in Buhisan, both in Cebu City; and A.S. Fortuna Street, AC Cortes Avenue, and Barangay Maguikay in Mandaue.
The weather systems also brought cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Zamboanga Peninsula, Pangasinan, Nueva Vizacaya, and Quirino, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
