Kabataan Party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel isn't impressed with the apparent success of the Darryl Yap-directed dramedy, "Maid in Malacañang".
According to the rookie solon, the public's show of support for the movie is a "manufactured" one since the watchers didn't really buy tickets for it. Instead, they allegedly got them for free.
"Dagdag ko na lang din po, may mga na-disclose din naman na (unretrievable) na tinawagan daw sila ni Senator Imee Marcos para bumili ng tickets, pakyawin yung tickets para ma-ensure yung sales. Tapos ipapamahagi para may manood (Just to add, it has been disclosed…that Senator Imee Marcos called them and told them to buy all the tickets to ensure the sale. These would then be given away so that people would watch it),” Manuel said in a press conference.
With that said, Manuel has no desire of seeing the movie--a sentiment shared by his fellow Makabayan bloc members Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas and ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro.
On another matter that's closer to Filipinos' stomachs, Senator Cynthia Villar said that it's simply not possible for local rice prices to be pulled down to P20 a kilo.
Villar, who retained her chairmanship of the Senate Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform Committee in the current 19th Congress, explained that the price of palay or unhusked rice of P11.50 a kilo would more than double to P30 a kilo after it is milled.
From there, it would only get more expensive for the Filipino staple food as additional costs like transportation and the cut for middlemen would have to be factored it.
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. promised during the campaign period earlier this year that we would lower the retail price of rice to P20 a kilo.
