Ex-village dad shot dead in Cagayan


TUAO, Cagayan – A former barangay councilor was gunned down by two men riding a motorcycle on NIA Road, Purok 6, Barangay Bulagao here Wednesday, August 3.

Cagayan police identified the victim as Fernando Masam, 61, of Barangay Macapil, Piat, this province.

Investigation showed that Masam was riding his horse on his way home when the gunmen wearing helmets appeared.

One of them drew a gun and shot the victim. The gunshot startled the horse and dropped Masam to the ground.

Residents told police they heard three consecutive bursts of gunfire in the area where the victim was shot.

Three residents of Macapil, Piat on their way home from work discovered the body of the victim sprawled and bloodied on the road.

Local police and crime scene investigators arrived and processed the crime scene.

Two empty shells of a 12-gauge shotgun and one caliber .357 revolver with five bullets in the cylinder were recovered in the area.

Police have yet to determine the identities of the gunmen and motive of the crime.
