Over 14 million students have enrolled for School Year (SY) 2022-2023 so far, data released by the Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday, Aug. 3 showed.

Based on the latest data from DepEd’s Learner Information System (LIS) for the incoming school year, the number of registered learners has reached 14,284,778.

DepEd said that Region IV-A has the highest number of registrants with 2,116,809 enrollees followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1,734,621, and Region III with 1,422,838.

The enrollment period for public schools this incoming school year started on July 25. It will end on Aug. 22 which is also the first day of classes for SY 2022-2023 as announced by DepEd earlier.

DepEd continues to encourage those who have yet to enroll to register. For SY 2022-2023, schools are implementing three enrollment methods which include in-person or face-to-face, remote, and dropbox enrollment.

Based on the released guidelines, DepEd only prescribed the options of five days of in-person classes, blended learning modality, and full distance learning until Oct. 31, 2022. As per DepEd, “all public and private schools shall have transitioned to 5 days of in-person classes” starting Nov. 2, 2022.

Moreover, DepEd said that “no school shall be allowed to implement purely distance learning or blended learning” except for those implementing alternative delivery modes as provided in the policy guidelines on the k to 12 basic education program and revised policy guidelines on homeschooling program.

Meanwhile, learners under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) can also enroll via in-person or digital methods.

DepEd said that the learning intervention for ALS will officially start on the said opening date while the program duration will depend on the learner’s educational background or existing knowledge level before enrolment in the ALS program.

The implementing guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities for SY 2022-2023, DepEd said, will apply to public and private elementary and secondary schools, including Community Learning Centers (CLCs) nationwide.

“Private schools, state/local universities, and colleges may implement the calendar,” DepEd said. “They may also start classes not earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August,” it added.

For this SY, DepEd said that the Basic Education Development Plan (BEDP) 2030, Learning Recovery and Continuity Plan (LRCP), and Classroom-based and System Assessments will guide schools in effectively delivering the K to 12 Basic Education Program amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
