President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered 10 days of national mourning for the passing of former President Fidel V. Ramos even as tributes continued to pour for the country’s 12th president.
Vice President Sara Duterte called him a “real patriot”, and former presidents Joseph Estrada and Rodrigo Duterte both paid tribute to a predecessor they emulated as a great statesman.
Ramos died on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at the age of 94, and was promptly remembered by former colleagues, agencies, and lawmakers from his role in the EDSA People Power Revolution to his presidency from 1992 to 1998, and even beyond.
Meanwhile, Malacañang announced the appointments of P/Lt. Gen. Rodolfo Azurin as Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro, a Medal of Valor awardee, as Armed Forces Chief of Staff, and Medardo De Lemos as National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) director.
Vice President and concurrent Education Secretary Sara Duterte led the Brigada Eskwela preparations for the opening of schoolyear 2022-2023, and confidently said that the Department of Education (DepEd) was ready for the start of in-person classes on August 22, 2022.
